Importing a Mixed File
Donors and Donations Together
If your file contains both donors and donations together in one file, then you have what we call a mixed file. In this case you may have a donor specified multiple times - once for each donation (see example below).
Mixed data files follow the same rules as importing donors and donations, except that the donor and the donation are both on the same row.
When you're importing a mixed file you can specify a donor on multiple lines for multiple donations. As long as their attributes (name, address, etc.) are identical for each row, then the system will recognize that it's the same person and will assign all their donations to the right donor.
Example Mixed File
Name | Amount | Fund | Source | Gift Date | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Andrew Carnegie | andrew@example.com | 100.00 | General Fund | Year-End Mailing | 2022-11-25 |
Andrew Carnegie | andrew@example.com | 125.00 | General Fund | Special Appeal | 2022-12-02 |
John Rockerfeller | john@example.com | 225.00 | General Fund | Special Appeal | 2022-11-18 |
Joseph Rowntree | joseph@example.com | 500.00 | General Fund | Year-End Appeal | 2022-12-08 |
In the example above, you'll end up with three donors (Andrew Carnegie, John Rockerfeller, and Joseph Rowntree) and four donations.
